Unconventional Ways to Find Leads on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is one of the most popular social media platforms to connect with and find leads to market to.

Don’t believe me? Here are some Statistics:

-16.2% of LinkedIn Users are active on a daily basis! So, about 134.5 million users actively use LinkedIn each day.
-On top of that, over 48% of users are active monthly.

That being said, there are some offbeat ways to find a new lead on LinkedIn that doesn’t involve searching for a job title and scrolling through all the results.

#Hashtags

Hashtags are a useful way to navigate certain social media platforms like Instagram and X, but they are also quite useful in LinkedIn! When you follow a hashtag, this passively shows up in your feed when you are casually using LinkedIn and interacting with your clients and prospects.

On the left column of your feed, if you scroll past your profile and page analytics, you will see “Followed Hashtags” as the bottom section. You can always check these for reference or click on a certain hashtag to have a feed of profiles or pages that used that hashtag recently.

Once you click on that hashtag, you can even sort by top posts or most recent posts.

LinkedIn Groups

Groups can be a wonderful way to find new leads and connect with like minded people. You can comment and interact in a space that is dedicated to a particular topic and have a way to communicate without making a connection first.

(Keep in mind that with a free profile, you do have a limit to the amount of groups you can request to join!)

When you request to join and get accepted into a group you can click on the bell icon to receive notifications of new posts or highlighted posts.

If you are willing to scroll through some names, you can look through the members of the group and find a new lead. In your initial message, you could mention that you both are in the same LinkedIn group.

If you keep scrolling through the group feed, on the right side, you will see a column that says, “Groups you might be interested in.” On the left column, you will see all the groups that you are currently a member in and have a quick reference link available there and anywhere on your feed.

LinkedIn Pages

Pages can be a wonderful way for you to connect with a company and keep up with their most recent posts about projects. If you follow a page, this page will show up in your feed. When you follow said page, you will see it listed under “Pages” under the left “Manage My Network” column when you click on “My Network”.

When you click on the page, the page will list “People” or their employees that have this place of work listed as part of their profile. LinkedIn will give you a breakdowns like:

  • “Where they live” (as listed on their profile)
  • “Where they studied” (any universities listed on their profile)
  • What they do or what their skills are
  • What they studied in university
  • How you are connected with them (1st, 2nd, or 3rd)

If you would rather take a look at all of their posts, you can see all of their images, videos, articles, documents, or ads they have posted and sort them by top results or most recent results.

The page may also list any upcoming events that you can join or any past events where you can see comments or reactions to any posts listed. Maybe you want to network in person or virtually – now is your chance!

One of my favorite features is the left most column labelled “Pages people also viewed” or “People also follow.” I love scrolling through these and finding pages that my connections follow or pages that have the same city, state, or regional location to help me target a specific area or industry.
